The hot and sticky months of summer are nearly behind us and the brisk cool air of fall awaits us. I don’t know about you, but it’s tough to drink whisky regularly when it’s 90 F outside. As soon as the chill sets in the scotch comes out of the cabinets. This October, some of the largest whisky industry events in NY will take place. Whisky Jewbilee 2013 is the first industry event of the autumn. Whisky Jewbilee will host two events in New York this fall. For us Manhattan dwellers the day to circle on our calendars is October 10th.
Whisky Jewbilee is put on by the Joshua, Jason and Seth of Single Cask Nation. The exhibition lineup that they’ve assembled in their second year is quite impressive. A few whiskies on the pour list that stand out to me are Kilchoman Machir Bay 2013, Old Malt Cask Longmorn 20 yr and Arran’s Devil’s Punchbowl Chapter II.
Additionally, Nikka is debuting four new whiskies: Miyagikyo 12 yr, Taketsuru 17 yr, Taketsuru 21 yr and Coffey Grain 8 yr. Having taken home the world whiskies award for best blended malt whisky in five of seven years, the Taketsuru 17 yr and 21 yr are recognized as two of the best single malt blends in the world.
Of course Single Cask Nation will have their full six bottle line-up on display. You wouldn’t normally get access to these unless you’re a member of SCN. The four year old Kilchoman that they have is supposed to be really good.
The cost of the event is $110; however, I was kindly offered a 10% discount code for all my loyal readers: “nyheart13” — all lowercase. The Manhattan event is limited to 325 people, so act fast! Hope to see some of you at the Whisky Jewbilee. If you plan to attend please let me know and we can try to meet up at the event.
