Impex Beverages is doing work! They recently brought over a whole new batch of Creative Whisky Exclusive Malts to the US market. This week they have announced the latest Chieftain’s run. In case you’re not familiar with Chieftain’s – it’s an independent range made up of rare single malt whisky. They’re mainly aimed at the high end of the market. Chieftain’s is owned and operated by Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD) whose brands include Dun Bheagan, Langs Smokehead and many others. IMD also owned Glengoyne and Tamdhu distilleries. Chieftain’s is released in small batches biannually in the Spring and Autumn. Here’s a quick preview of the Chieftain’s run #8:
Dailuiane 30 yr, distilled in 1983, Cask #4325, 110.40 proof
Glentauchers 21 yr, distilled in 1991, Cask #90552, 110 proof
Littlemill 22 yr, distilled in 1992, Cask #103807, 92 proof
Tobermory 18 yr, distilled in 1995, Cask #1287, 92 proof
I hope to review the samples as soon as I receive them. I’m pretty excited for the Tobermory 18 actuually since I was able to try the official bottling Tobermory 15 yr which was amazing. There is no official 18 year bottling available in the US market. Littlemill distillery is a closed distillery (since 1996) which no longer makes booze, so their stuff is always a treat to try since it’ll never be made again. I don’t have much experience with the Speyside distillery Glentauchers since more of their spirit is used to make the infamous Ballantines blend. A single malt version of Glentauchers is not readily available in the US. The Dailuiane 30 year old sounds enticing – who doesn’t like trying three decade old whisky? Keep your eyes out for these releases in specialty spirits retailers near you!
