The good people at Moet-Hennessy (owners of Ardbeg) sure know how to put on an event for the Ardbeg Committee. They flew Global Ambassador Hamish Torrie to meet and greet US based Ardbeg Committee members. New York had it’s event last night at the Headless Horseman in Union Square.
It was an intimate event limited to 35-40 people so that we could all have a chance to interact with Hamish. As a special treat they brought over some stashed bottles of prior year limited releases: Alligator and Airigh Nam Beist. They also had Galileo, Uigeadail, Corryvreckan and the 10 year available. It was probably the greatest assembly of Ardbeg releases I’ve seen in a while.
The Airigh Nam Beist undoubtedly stood out as the best dram among the bunch. It was creamy, with rich vanilla notes, fennel and pine nuts rounded out by a smoky meaty flavor. Absolutely breath taking. I have it on record from Hamish himself that Beist was is his favorite. In addition to fantastic whisky they also served hor d’oeuvres and handed out special Ardbeg glasses and t-shirts. Hamish made his rounds and spoke to anyone and everyone who was willing to listen. He’s a very friendly guy who seemed genuinely interested to meet us. It was apparent that this isn’t just a job for Hamish, he’s also a fellow passionate whisky fan.
If you’ve never been to an Ardbeg Committee event you’re definitely missing out. What are you waiting for, join now!
